Xentry 2015 Installation Guide: A Step-by-Step Walkthrough

Setting up Xentry 2015 can seem daunting, but with a clear guide, the process becomes manageable. This guide provides a detailed walkthrough of the installation process, ensuring a smooth and successful setup.

Preparing for Installation

Before diving into the installation, proper preparation is crucial. This involves configuring your system and gathering the necessary components.

System Requirements and Partitioning

Xentry 2015 demands specific system requirements. Begin by installing Windows XP with Service Pack 3. Create two user accounts with administrator privileges: “OWNER” and “STAR”.

Next, partition your hard drive as follows:

  • C: Minimum 15 GB of free space (20 GB recommended)
  • D: Minimum 5 GB of free space
  • E: Minimum 5 GB of free space (20 GB recommended if installing WIS later)
  • F: Minimum 20 GB of free space

While various partitioning tools exist, free options like EASUS Partition Master Free or MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition can effectively manage this task. Ensure the drive letters precisely match the recommendations.

Date and Time Settings

Set your system date to no more than one month after the STAR DVD release date. This step is critical for proper installation. Run the prepare.bat file and carefully follow the provided instructions.

Installing Xentry 2015

With preparations complete, you can begin the Xentry 2015 installation.

Launching the Setup

Insert the STAR DVD into your laptop’s drive. Assuming your DVD drive letter is G, locate and execute the G:\stardiag\setup.exe file. The installation might initially finish quickly, prompting a system reboot. Allow the reboot and relaunch the setup file afterward.

During installation, you might encounter error -6003. If this occurs, simply acknowledge it by pressing “OK” to proceed with the installation. Should you need to reinstall DAS in a different language, do so before moving to the next step.

Post-Installation Configuration

After DAS installation completes, do not immediately reboot your computer by clicking “Finish”. Instead, run the after installation.bat file included in the installation package.

Configuring COM Port Settings

Proper COM port configuration is essential for Xentry to function correctly.

Accessing Port Settings

Navigate to: Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > Ports (COM & LPT). Right-click on the enabled COM port and select “Properties”.

Adjusting Parameters

Within the “Port Settings” tab, configure the following values:

  • Bits per second: 115200
  • Data bits: 8
  • Parity: None
  • Stop bits: 1
  • Flow Control: None

Click “Advanced…” and ensure “Use FIFO buffers” is checked and “COM Port Number” is set to COM2. Confirm these settings by pressing “OK” and close Device Manager. Finally, reboot your computer.

Troubleshooting and Final Steps

After rebooting, you might encounter a locked STAR user account. Try the password User$star2004. If unsuccessful, log in using the “OWNER” account and remove the password for the “STAR” user.

You may need to apply DAS fixes located in the “DAS fixes” folder. Additional software might need to be downloaded; online resources can provide further assistance.
