Enhance Your Drive with an OBD2 HUD Speedometer

An Obd2 Hud Speedometer offers a convenient way to monitor your speed without taking your eyes off the road. This reflective display projects your vehicle’s speed onto the windshield, ensuring a safer and more focused driving experience. Recently, while installing an OBD2 HUD speedometer in a 2001 Toyota Tundra, an unexpected issue arose: a flashing ABS light. This article details the troubleshooting process and solution for this common problem.

Pinpointing the Problem: Troubleshooting the ABS Light

After installing a new iKiKin M7 Dual Mode Windshield Projector Car HUD Display (Amazon link), the vehicle’s ABS warning light began flashing. Disconnecting the HUD resolved the issue, indicating a conflict between the device and the vehicle’s onboard diagnostics system. Further investigation revealed that one of the pins on the OBD2 connector of the speedometer was causing the problem.

The Solution: Identifying and Removing the Problematic Pin

The solution involved identifying and removing the problematic pin from the speedometer’s OBD2 connector. Caution is advised: do not remove any pins without first testing to confirm the culprit.

The process involved systematically bending pins 9, 10, and 11 down, one at a time, using needle-nose pliers. After bending each pin, the HUD was reconnected to test if the ABS light still flashed. This iterative process revealed pin 11 as the source of the issue.

Important: Bend the pins for testing purposes only. Once the problematic pin is identified (in this case, pin 11), carefully remove it from the speedometer’s connector, not the vehicle’s OBD2 port. Removing the pin eliminates the short circuit and resolves the ABS light issue. Remember, removing a pin is irreversible, so accurate identification is crucial.

Understanding the Issue: Why This Fix Works

The likely cause of the conflict is a short circuit within the pin’s connection. Removing the faulty pin breaks the circuit, allowing the HUD to function correctly without triggering the ABS warning light. This solution restores the intended functionality of both the speedometer and the vehicle’s safety systems. Now, you can enjoy the benefits of an OBD2 HUD speedometer – a clear, heads-up display of your speed – without compromising your vehicle’s safety. This simple fix allows for a safer and more informed driving experience.
